TYCA-Midwest Call for Nominations: Outstanding New Teacher Award
Deadline May 31, 2019!
TYCA-Midwest invites you to nominate exceptional part-time and full-time English instructors early in their professional careers for the Outstanding New Teacher Award for 2019. The winner will receive a plaque honoring the achievement, will be recognized at the Friday luncheon at the 2019 conference, and will receive a $100 gift certificate to NCTE.
Nominees must be teaching at any two-year college and must be:
a) within the first five years of their teaching careers, and
b) able to attend the TYCA-Midwest Fall conference to accept the award if selected.
Nominees should excel in at least four of the following:

Clearly stated instructional objectives

Adequate preparation and demonstrated mastery of subject matter

Appropriate instructional methods (e.g., detailed syllabi, well-organized presentation, timely and appropriate feedback to students, effective classroom style, use of instructional technology, etc.)

Significant results (e.g., outstanding students’ achievement, student expression of course value, etc.)

-
Presentation of instructional strategies (e.g., conference papers and/or publications focusing on pedagogical issues.)

-
Service to the department or institution
-
-
Reflective critique (e.g., use of assessment or evaluation to improve course, creation of new course, etc.)
The nomination packet must include:
1. A letter of nomination from a TYCA-Midwest member citing the nominee’s accomplishments.
2. Two (2) additional letters of support from students, colleagues, and/or supervisors/administrators.

Finalist will be asked to send in:
1.The nominee’s current curriculum vitae.
2. A syllabus from a current course.
3. A statement of the nominee’s philosophy of teaching (not to exceed two pages).
